Davey and Goliath, the stop-motion animation series for children, first aired on broadcast television in 1960. Created by Art and Ruth Clokey, well-known animators of Gumby and Pokey, the show focused on Davey Hansen and his talking dog, Goliath, who acts as Davey’s conscience.
The story lines carried uplifting, moral lessons on such topics as responsibility, the environment, acceptance of all people, and other valuable lessons designed to affirm a child’s faith in God in an entertaining and educational way.
The Lutheran Church in America, now known as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), produced 65 fifteen-minute episodes and six half-hour specials. The award-winning Davey and Goliath was broadcast for 20 years on weekend mornings. It continues to air on select cable outlets.
